Book signing

Today was a light day training-wise, and that's OK.

I had a book signing shortly after work, and I was still good and sore from Wednesday's vault practice and Thursday's heavy-duty leg workout at the gym, so I didn't feel too bad about cutting it short today. The only thing I did was six reps of my low-bar core-strengthening exercises that are designed to move me up to the next level in my pole vaulting journey.

If I can only do one thing, it's going to be the low-bar "workout," which only takes 10 minutes, but is going to strengthen my midsection enough to allow me to invert (go upside down) when I vault and get my hips a lot higher -- consequently, higher jumps.

I did four sets of barbell squats yesterday. Nothing too dramatic. I think I maxed out at 125 pounds for six reps. I also did some leg presses, finishing up with four reps of 410 pounds. That's pretty heavy for me, and pretty darn good, if I do say so myself.

Tomorrow, even though it's going to be cold outside, I'll do some more low-bar reps, and 10-12 sprints with a weighted sled, ankle weights, and a weighted vest. I'm going to have to get out there early, before it starts raining. Sunday's going to be cold to go jumping, I think. Otherwise, I'd need to rest the legs for practice.

But back to the book signing -- this was my first co-writing and publishing effort, after writing and publishing my own dozen books. If you're interested, you can go to www.johnhenryiii.com/my-books and check 'em out.

This time, my dear Auntie V referred me to a friend of hers who was trying to put together a book about her late father's attempt 30 years ago to sail solo across the Atlantic Ocean in a 30-foot sloop. Most of the work was done by her dad, a dairy farmer and excellent writer who kept a nifty journal through the whole thing. All I did was write the introduction, divide the journal writings into chapters, and guide Drew through adding some of her own thoughts, memories, and stories, and voila!
The result, "Odyssey of a Texas Sailor," turned out great, and is doing really well on amazon.com. Click HERE to check it out.

Time now to couch potato it for a little while. Been a fairly long week. A little TV, hopefully some good sleep, and then back at it tomorrow.
